Managing Endometriosis symptoms

As an Endo Warrior myself, I know I speak for majority of us when I say we will try just about anything and everything to try and manage the symptoms.
Endometriosis symptoms look different for everyone so ensuring you find the right therapies to help you through your journey is imperative.
Below is an example of just a few popular therapies your Specialist may recommend to try and manage your symptoms outside of excision surgery:
  1. Heat therapy: Applying heat to the lower abdomen or lower back can help relax pelvic muscles and alleviate pain. You can use a heating pad, hot water bottle or warm towel for relief.
  2. Contraceptive pill: The contraceptive pill is an effective and commonly used treatment for managing endometriosis symptoms. By regulating hormones, reducing menstrual flow and pain and preventing ovulation, the pill can help control the condition and improve the quality of life for those affected by Endometriosis.   3. Over-the-counter pain medication: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen can help reduce inflammation and alleviate menstrual cramps associated with Endometriosis.
  4. Prescription pain medication: In severe cases where over-the-counter medications aren't sufficient, your healthcare provider may prescribe stronger pain relievers to manage Endometriosis-related pain.
  5. Pelvic floor physiotherapy: Working with a pelvic floor physiotherapist can help strengthen and relax pelvic muscles, improving pelvic floor function and reducing pain associated with Endometriosis.
  6. Mindfulness and relaxation techniques: Practices such as deep breathing, meditation, guided imagery, and progressive muscle relaxation can help reduce stress and promote relaxation, potentially easing Endometriosis-related pain.
  7. Acupuncture: Some women find relief from Endometriosis pain through acupuncture, which involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to promote pain relief and overall well-being.
  8. Dietary changes: Certain dietary modifications, such as reducing consumption of inflammatory foods like processed sugars and saturated fats, and increasing intake of anti-inflammatory foods like fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids, may help manage Endometriosis symptoms.
  9. Regular exercise: Engaging in low-impact exercises such as walking, swimming, yoga or pilates can help improve circulation, reduce inflammation and alleviate Endometriosis-related pain.
  10. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS): TENS therapy involves the use of a small, battery-operated device that delivers mild electrical impulses to nerve fibers, which may help disrupt pain signals and provide relief from Endometriosis pain.
  11. Support groups and counselling: Connecting with other people who have Endometriosis through support groups or seeking counselling can provide emotional support, validation and coping strategies for managing the physical and emotional challenges of living with this condition.
  12. Zoladex injections: Zoladex (goserelin acetate) is a type of medication known as a Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonist. It is used in the management of Endometriosis to help alleviate symptoms and control the progression of the disease.
  13. Cold therapy: Cold therapy, also known as cryotherapy, is a widely used method for reducing inflammation and alleviating pain. It involves applying cold to an area of the body, typically through ice packs, cold compresses or specialised cold therapy devices.

Your journey will more than likely be alot of trial and error, it is important to know that as your body ages some solutions may need to be tweaked, trialled and changed.
